Inspired by Coral Castle, "an oolite limestone structure created by the Latvian-American eccentric Edward Leedskalnin. From 1923 to 1951, Ed single-handedly and secretly carved over 1,100 tons of coral rock, and his unknown process has created one of the world's most mysterious accomplishments.”

Creating sculptural planters from this came to me in a dream. If Edward did it in the 1900s, how hard can it be today? Apparently very challenging. I chose Keystone, which is the bedrock specific to the Florida Keys. You can no longer excavate Keystone unless a building is approved to break ground. Today's Keystone is salvaged. The second challenge was finding the fabricator who has the CNC machine to cut spheres into this dense yet brittle rock. Once again, the plants guided me. A nursery run would give me the lead where I could bring my vision to life. Tears included.
