Alaïa Miami Design District
Bringing Patrick Blanc's Botanical Vision to Life
Client
Alaïa – Miami Design District
Location
Miami Design District, Miami, Florida
Project Type
Luxury Retail | Botanical Installation | Living Architecture
When French luxury fashion house Alaïa selected Miami Design District for its first boutique in the city, every detail of the project was approached as a work of architecture. Designed by Swedish architecture studio Halleroed, the boutique features a sculptural pink mosaic façade anchored by a living botanical installation conceived by renowned French botanist Patrick Blanc, whose work has become synonymous with integrating nature into architecture. The boutique continues Blanc's decades-long collaboration with the Maison, extending the dialogue between fashion, architecture, and living landscapes into Miami.
Apollo Plants was entrusted with the local execution of this vision.
The Challenge
Executing an internationally designed botanical installation requires far more than sourcing plants.
Every species, texture, color, scale, and placement needed to faithfully reflect Patrick Blanc's design intent while adapting to South Florida's growing conditions, plant availability, logistics, and installation requirements.
The project demanded:
Precise plant sourcing from multiple specialty nurseries
Coordination between international designers, architects, and local contractors
Careful procurement of tropical species matching the original botanical palette
Detailed plant mapping and staging
Installation within an active luxury retail construction schedule
Preservation of the artistic integrity of the original concept
Apollo's Role
Apollo Plants served as the local horticultural execution partner responsible for transforming the design into reality.
Our work included:
Botanical procurement across multiple South Florida growers
Plant palette coordination and substitutions when necessary
Quality selection and inspection of every specimen
Logistics coordination and deliveries
Detailed staging based on Patrick Blanc's planting composition
Installation management
Collaboration with architects, contractors, and the international design team throughout execution
Rather than redesigning the project, our responsibility was to faithfully interpret and execute one of the world's leading botanical designers' vision while ensuring every plant met the standards required for a luxury flagship.
Design Philosophy
At Alaïa, plants are not decoration—they are architecture.
Every specimen contributes to the rhythm, texture, and sculptural quality of the building itself. The botanical installation softens the geometry of the pink mosaic façade, creating a dialogue between permanence and growth.
This philosophy closely aligns with Apollo's own belief that nature should become an integral part of how people experience a space—not simply an accessory added afterward.
The Outcome
The completed boutique establishes a new architectural landmark within Miami's Design District.
The living botanical installation forms one of the building's defining features, creating a memorable first impression while reinforcing Alaïa's longstanding relationship with landscape, craftsmanship, and design. The boutique's façade has already been recognized as one of its signature architectural elements following the store's opening.
For Apollo Plants, the project represents the opportunity to collaborate on an internationally recognized luxury retail destination while demonstrating our expertise in high-end botanical procurement, project coordination, and the execution of complex design visions.
